The City of Richmond is calling for Richmond-based visual artists and graphic designers to create a signature artwork for the 21st Richmond Maritime Festival. The winning submission will become the signature image for this year’s event, taking place at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site on Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25. One of the region’s most popular summertime events, the Richmond Maritime Festival draws tens of thousands of festival goers each year.
The winning artwork should embody Steveston’s maritime heritage and history. The design will be used on the festival’s poster and promotional materials distributed across Metro Vancouver in print and online. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium.
The deadline to submit is Sunday, June 9, with the winner announced in late June. Concept art submissions can be sent via email to festivals@richmond.ca. Artists may also submit a portfolio of up to five work samples (in electronic format).
About the Richmond Maritime Festival
The Richmond Maritime Festival is presented by the City of Richmond, Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site Society and Richmond Arts Coalition with funding support from the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage grant program and the Province of British Columbia through the BC Fairs, Festivals and Events Fund (BCFFE). The festival brings to life the heritage of the region through maritime-themed activities, live music, artists, food trucks and a display of beautifully restored wooden boats and ships.
