The City of Richmond invites input as it updates long-term Official Community Plan

Garry Point Park cherry blossoms OCP update

The City of Richmond is updating its current Official Community Plan (OCP) and is encouraging residents and community members to learn more and provide input. Several engagement opportunities are being offered from September through November.

“Richmond’s Official Community Plan outlines our City’s long-term goals and objectives around development and land use to the year 2050,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The current updates we’re undertaking include a focus on housing affordability and environmental protection. With Richmond residents and businesses participating at this early stage, we are able to include valuable input on strategic and sustainable growth which supports long-term community needs for a well-planned and prosperous City.”

The current OCP to the year 2041 was adopted in 2012. Since then, it’s been updated in specific sections to reflect Richmond’s population and economy growth, as well as other external social and environmental factors.

The overarching themes for the current OCP update include resiliency, equity and adaptation with six target areas.

The OCP update also responds to the provincial government’s legislative changes stating that local municipalities review and update the OCP every five years, as well as reflect the 20 year total number of required housing units set by the Province.
