Richmond’s streets are set to showcase a new collection of street banners. Local artists, designers and creatives of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. The City of Richmond is now accepting original artwork for the 34th annual Street Banner Contest, celebrating the creativity, character and diverse experiences that make Richmond unique.

From photography and graphic design to watercolour, oil painting and collage, submissions can take many forms. Artwork must capture Richmond through one of 10 themes: Nightscape; Harvest; Coastal City; Discover; Play; Wildlife; Celebrate: The Arts; Heritage; and Cultural Fusion.

A panel of five local artists and City staff will review all eligible entries and select 20 designs to advance to online community voting. Richmond residents will then have the opportunity to choose 10 winning designs, which will be featured on 1,000 street banners displayed throughout the city.

Entries will be accepted until 11:59pm on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Winners will be announced at a City Council meeting in spring 2027 and each will receive a $300 honorarium and a full-sized banner featuring the winning design.
