City of Richmond voices support for Ukraine

01 March 2022

The City of Richmond will fly the Ukraine flag at City Hall in support of the sovereign nation and its democratically elected government, recently invaded by neighbouring Russia.

Council endorsed a Resolution at last night’s meeting to fly the Ukrainian flag on the Richmond City Hall flagpole on No. 3 Road, effective immediately.

“What we have all witnessed in Ukraine over the past few days is alarming and devastating for the country, its citizens and democracy,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The City of Richmond wants to show that it supports the people of Ukraine, its democratically elected government, as well as the residents of Ukrainian origin in Richmond and elsewhere.”

Along with the raising of the flag, Council will send a letter of support for the government and people of Ukraine to the Consul General of Ukraine in Vancouver.
