Creatives of all types are encouraged to submit personal artworks to the City of Richmond’s highly anticipated Street Banner Contest. From now through Sunday, September 15, artists of all ages and abilities are invited to share their vision of the places, experiences and activities that make Richmond a truly unique and picturesque city.
Submissions, which can encompass a range of artistic mediums including photography, graphic design, watercolour, oil painting and collage, must reflect Richmond in one of the following themes: Arts, Culture and Heritage; Community; Diversity; Island City; Nature; Play; Sports and Recreation; Sustainability; Urban Landscape; and Wildlife.
A judging panel made up of five local artists and staff will shortlist 20 submissions from all entries for community voting online. The public will select 10 winning designs to be showcased on 1,000 street banners throughout Richmond.
Submissions that fit the banner contest criteria will be accepted now until 5:00pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Contest winners will be announced at a City Council meeting in spring 2025 and awarded a $300 honorarium along with a full-sized banner featuring their winning design.
